If you like Narnia, you may also like:

The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis--Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength

The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien

For discerning kids--probably middle- and older teens (adults can enjoy them, too):

The Dark is Rising sequence, by Susan Cooper--Over Sea, Under Stone, The Dark Is Rising, Greenwitch, The Grey King, and Silver on the Tree

The Chronicles of Prydain, by Lloyd Alexander--The Book of Three, The Black Cauldron, The Castle of Llyr, Taran Wanderer and The High King

The Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling--they get a lot of flak from Christians, but they're really well-written stories and I don't find anything fundamentally objectionable with them.

And for very discerning older teens and adults (those who can enjoy a story without being drawn in by the worldview that drives it): The His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman--The Golden Compass, the Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. Perhaps best read and discussed by parents along with their kids.

I reckon that's enough for now.

I love Narnia! My son read those last summer. I would be so happy if I could get my daughter to read Little House, but she is really into animals at the moment.

Thanks for contributing to the list!
