Best recipe for vinegar window cleaner

August 8th, 2007

Since Mom has been retired, she’s been doing some deep cleaning in the house including taking the ceiling fan blades down in the kitchen and rediscovering their true color under the grease that inevitably accumulates, and of course the yucky job of cleaning windows. She asked for a recipe for window cleaner using vinegar, and we found a great one:

2 cups water

1/2 cup distilled white vinegar

1/2 teaspoon of liquid soap

Sure is cheaper than Windex and works better too.

Is it bad that when we have a bottle of vinegar in the house I don’t think twice of drinking out of the bottle?

The Romans used to drink it as they believed it quenched thirst better than water.

Our windows here could actually do with a good cleaning, maybe I’ll lay off the bottle and use some to cleans the panes. Of course, if I get thirsty doing it..

This is so strange because I was just thinking the other day that there has to be something out there better than windex. Windex always leaves streaks and especially on mirrors. Does this recipe work for mirrors too OR just windows?

For windows I had always used some hot water and some dish soap. I use two towels. One to clean with and one to wipe up with and that seemed to work much better than windex. I had not tried that method on mirrors though.

I assume it would work just as well on mirrors…

Just wanted to let everyone know that this recipe also works on mirrors and as a spot cleaner on carpets and upholstery.
